Last year, I wrote a post about wanting to leave X/Twitter. In recent months, I have been doomscrolling. I can give a specific date when doomscrolling started and peaked, March 11, 2025. There’s a good reason why my doomscrolling started there. That date was when former Philippine president Rodrigo Roa Duterte was arrested and brought to the International Criminal Court at The Hague.
I spent eight hours on social media, specifically X/Twitter. I mostly looked at news outlets' updates, experts' commentary, and memes. I spent the entire day on social media when I could have finished Wuthering Heights or written something. It was worrying when the following day, I found myself reaching for my phone and checking X/Twitter.

I tried reading Wuthering Heights but still found myself reaching for my phone. I kept telling myself I should stop doomscrolling. I could easily stop but I chose not to.
Maybe it’s hyperfixation?
Maybe I’m making excuses?
Maybe it’s Maybelline.
However, the change came on May 11, 2025 – the night before the Philippine Midterm Elections. I deleted the app on both my phone and on my iPad. I knew it would get crazy on my feed and I would be sucked into doomscrolling again. I just had to delete the app. I know I haven’t deleted my account but this is still an improvement. If I’m being honest, I’m quite lazy to do the whole process of deleting the account.
I’m in the early stages of deleting the X/Twitter app from my gadgets, so I find it incredibly weird that I have no idea what’s going on in that godforsaken app. I’m getting used to it.

Have I been spending time on TikTok to compensate for not having the app on any of my gadgets? Probably.
Have I been spending time on Threads? Yes but not as much as I used to spend on X/Twitter.
Will I continue to work on improving my screen time? YES!
Have I returned to old hobbies after deleting X/Twitter? Yes!
Will I download the app again? No. I can only access it through my desktop and even then, I barely open it. The next step would be deleting my account entirely.
So, I guess this is it. Goodbye, X/Twitter (app)!
It’s been a long, wild ride since March 2009. Thank you for the memes, the viral moments, and the fan wars. I’ll miss the updates that a so-so app is down. I’ll miss the tweets I bookmarked. Thanks for the good times and really not thankful for the bad times.
See you never, Twitter/X!
